Guitar Rig is a software effect processor developed by Native Instruments. It is designed for electric guitar and bass and the software uses amplifier modeling to allow real-time digital signal processing in both standalone and studio (VST/DXi/RTAS) environments. Its latest version is 3.2 released in january this year.
The Guitar Rig environment is modular system, providing capabilities for multiple amplifiers, effects pedals and rack mounted hardware. The software simulates a number of devices such as preamplifiers, cabinets and microphones under pseudonyms (such as renaming the Shure SM57 as the “Dynamic 57“).
The system allows customisation of module parameters – either through manipulation of the graphical interface, use of a MIDI controller or employment of the RigKontrol. Settings can be saved as presets and exported and shared with other users. Version 3 included a redesigned interface to allow improved preset categorisation and customised interfaces for live use.
A new documentary featuring never-heard-before fragments of conversation, along with interviews and rare footage of The Beatles in the studio, will form the centerpiece of a season of programming as BBC 2 and BBC 4 join forces for Beatles Week. The joint season, celebrating the Fab Four’s enduring legacy and continuing influence, begins on BBC 2 on Saturday 5 September 2009.
Kicking off an evening of programming on BBC Two on 5 September, The Beatles On Record offers a concise history of The Beatles in the studio and sits alongside other highlights including the first TV showing of The Beatles: The First U.S. Visit, the Maysles brothers’ film charting the Fab Four’s arrival in America in 1964. BBC Four‘s programming includes Storyville’s extraordinary story of how The Beatles‘ music may have contributed towards the collapse of the USSR; a documentary on the making of The Beatles‘ First U.S. Visit; and a new compilation of archive footage featuring an eclectic range of artists who have covered Beatles songs over the decades.
In 1962 an unknown group from Liverpool entered Abbey Road Studios to record their debut single. During the next eight years they created what is arguably regarded as the greatest collection of studio recordings of the 20th century. The Beatles On Record, directed by Bob Smeaton, charts The Beatles‘ extraordinary journey from Please Please Me to Abbey Road and reflects on how they developed as musicians, matured as songwriters and created a body of work that sounds as fresh in 2009 as the time it was recorded.
Narrated entirely by John, Paul, George, Ringo and their producer Sir George Martin, the documentary features more than 60 classic songs, rare footage and photos from The Beatles’ archives and never-heard-before out-takes of studio chat from the Abbey Road recording sessions.
The next two stops of the U2 360° tour marks the end of the european leg. The last two concerts are being held at Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield on 20th August and Millenium Stadium, Cardiff on 22nd August. The bands opening for them at Sheffield will be Elbow and The Hours. And at Cardiff the opening bands will be Glasvegas and The Hours. U2 have left the crowd breathless and asking for more. The response for this tour is so overwhelming.
Cylinder recordings were the first commercially made music recordings and is a snapshot of music culture in the 20th century. With funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the UCSB Libraries have created a digital collection of nearly 8,000 cylinder recordings held by the Department of Special Collections. In an effort to bring these recordings to a wider audience, they can be freely downloaded or streamed online.
This is really cool site for music lovers as you can convert your old recordings into digitized form. You can also listen to very first recordings ever made at this site !!
Les Paul a legendary rock guitarist and man who developed the electric guitar died on Thurday at the age of 94 in New York. Born as Lester Polsfuss in Winconsin in 1915 and earlier he was a jazz and a country musician. He invented the solid-body electric guitars whcih revolutionised the rock scene. He collaborated with the famous guitar making firm Gibson and made the world-famous Gibson Les Paul electric guitar which has been used by well-known guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Keith Richards (Rolling Stones), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Pete Townshend (The Who), Slash (Guns n Roses), The Edge (U2). Les Paul also pioneered the multitrack recordings in 1940’s which permitted a close harmonic layering of guitars and vocals. Without him the rock n’ roll sound may have been different.
